We have been quite pleased with MDR thus far. My child is in 1st grade this year and is reading at a level 16 and above. (They are expected to be at this level at the end of first grade.) In Kindergarten and this year, my child's teachers have encouraged and appreciated parental volunteerism. (I have been on field trips and I am not a certified teacher.) To my knowledge, the only reason for not being able to go on a trip would be a negative background check. My child has had 24 children in each of her classes- with a full-time aide in Kindergarten. The actual facility is beautiful and well-equipped. The first-graders have music and gym twice/week - computer lab, library and art once/week. They also meet with a 3rd grade study buddy once a week and work on various projects. The office staff could be friendlier, however!

A wonderful elementary school. Lots of volunteer opportunities for parents. Parents kept involved with each child's development. Very impressed with professionalism of staff. Beautiful building. Definately would send my kids again. Max class size I had in 5 yrs. was 25.

Perhaps because of the size of this school district, there appear to be significant problems. Parental involvement is discouraged and you must be 'certified' in order to become a chaperone for field trips. (Although I am a substitute teacher and meet the state requirements, I have never been called for this duty.) This school practices looping, the child has the same teacher for 2 years in a row. This may be wonderful if your child gets a good teacher, but it is a horrible experience for those who receive a bad teacher. Most of the teachers appear overwhelmed as the class sizes are too large (30-32).
