Roland W. Russom Elementary School

I am surprised this web site has the school rating at 7. I believe it should be a 10. My kids love the school, the building is beautiful, and the staff is highly qualified. As a parent I enjoy knowing that my children are in a safe and loving environment. To top it off, the education at this school is great!

This is my first tine submitting a review to any online forum. However, I was compelled with all the good reviews about Roland Russom Elementrary that I just had to add mine. No, the school is not good. It is excellent. We are immigrants and black family and felt uneasy with our kids being in a at-first-glance 82% white school. No, it's not 'whitey' at all. It actually has a reasonably mixed balance of cultural and racial diversity. The School Principal, Mrs Gina King, is awesome. She doesn't fail to amaze me how she calls our children by their first name effortlessly regardless that she is not their immediate. The kids are given enough homework, parents are heavily involved in their children education, the staff and teachers are polite. When we relocated to another country, our children were depressed. This is one of the best schools around, no doubt.

We have been very pleased with our son's experience at Russom. I appreciate that the teachers he has had have taken the time to ability group the students in some aresas so my son faces new challenges. He has learned so much this year. Regarding the comments about fundraising, the PTA sends home a comprehensive list of all fundraisers/restaurant nights/social events during the first weeks of school and I use this to determine how I want to spread my overall donation budget since you can pick what you want to participate in. I think that the parent involvement is outstanding and you can really tell that there is a culture focused on making the school open to parents. Also, the school has purchased licenses for several online learning/testing sites that you can use at home to enhance the classroom education or just to see somthing presented in another way.

My children have been going to Russom since it opened - 5 or 6 years. I am very pleased with the school and the open communication that I have always been able to have with the administration and teachers. I have not once had an issue or question ignored. My children (3) have thrived in that school.
