I'm a junior here at Shaker High School, and I moved here only a year ago from PA. At first, I was a little scared of the new environment, but I soon found out that everyone here is really nice. The teachers were willing to help me with catching up and any other things I needed help with. However, there's also a bad side to this- everything is so hard! The reason I chose this school was because their standarized test scores were pretty high compared to other schools within the distric, but I know why now: they work hard. This school is VERY test-driven; everything you do is to prepare for future tests (SAT, Regents, AP, or any other tests). So, if you want to have a relaxing high school without a lot of work load, then this is definitely not for you.

Shaker High School is a wonderful school. The quality of the academic programs are excellent. Availability of music, arts, sports and any other extracurricular activities has to be rated excellent, also. The teachers are some of the best in New York. Coming from a small school system in Virgina,I am very impressed with all that is taught at Shaker High and the involvement of the teachers. They put so much time in being there for the students. That is a rare thing for me to see. It seems that the parent involvement is high, but I think as parents,we could do a bit better. I do feel that the one thing that is lacking is the amount of disipline. As far as safety,Shaker is doing what needs to be done to protect our kids.Overall,I am pleased with Shaker and all that are involved in making this such a great school.
