I went to Highland for all four years of high school and I graduated in 2008. Overall as a school, it is without a doubt the best high school in Gaston County. I know that a lot of high schools are trying to copy us and add programs like the medical program but Highland is still the best. We may not have had the best sports teams but we definitely had the best atmosphere. I'd say it's the cleanest school in Gaston County and while on a very very rare occasion is there a disturbance, we are the best behaved high school in the county. I only have one complaint and that is the Health Academy. In my senior year (07-08) it was horrible. Dental had lost their ability to accredit. Our coordinator was doing a horrible job and I'm going to have to continue this in a new review.

My son has been at Highland for three years now, and feel it was the best move, the school has the academic and leadership needed to get a child ready for college. The students are not subject to peer pressure like some schools in the county. As far as sports , some programs have come a long way, like the football program, the baseball program needs much needed work. The clubs at Highland work hard to be the best in the state and won many awards. I think if you are thinking of placing your child on the lottery as a freshman it would take him or her to the next level with outstanding results if they apply themselves.
It is a joy to teach at Highland. 98% of our parents are supportive and work with us as a team. Our students are creative, fun, interested, and at times - exhausting! LOL.
I am very impressed with Highland School of Technology in Gastonia, NC. The teachers there are so enthusiastic about teaching the kids... and it shows through their personalities, the way their classrooms look and are handled, the way they treat the kids (with respect), and especially how they teach. My daughter loves this school... where it is an 'actual' place of learning... no fights... no disrespect... just learning and good friendships with other students and teachers. This school's first priority is academic (rather than sports or any other agenda). Last year (2007-2008), Highland had a 100 percent graduation rate... the only one in the state. Hooray for Highland!
