Rainier High School Rocks!!! Teachers, parents and students are all caring! We have a huge college like campus and a new health center! Go Columbians!!!!

This is a great school district for a small town. There are about 1400 students, K-12. If your child is above average, there are college courses available if s/he has tapped out the high school. If your child needs an IEP, that is available. 98% of the staff and administration loves their job and cares about the kids. The community is tight knit but welcoming and willing to help newbies settle in. As a parent, you'll need to get involved both with in school and out of school activities if your child is going to find success. Don't expect others to carry your load in this rural area, which is 95% blue collar. You and your child will get out of public education what you put into it.

The teachers are doing a good job with what they have. The budget is small, and there are not enough classes to choose from. With a senior about to graduate and another being a sophomore, the opportunities are meek. Only one foreign language course. What if a student doesn't want to learn Spanish, but maybe French....too bad. There are very few specialty classes available. However, there are some courses available through the local colleges, that are challenging. I guess that's the price for a small town school. Over all... If I had a choice, I would not send my children to this school, the opportunities, just aren't there.

This school is a real disappointment. No one ever answers the phone or returns calls. Many of the teachers are unorganized and seem to actually dislike children. Teachers have little communication with parents outside of scheduled events. They rarely return calls or respond to emails. Kids are out of control and the staff seem unable to function as a team. The education my child receives is not challenging and quite often teachers take over a month to grade completed work. The online parent assistant tool has potential, however if teachers aren't grading work in a timely manner it is pointless. If we had any other options we would pull our child out of this school in a heartbeat. Very frustrating!
