Drms 258 happens to be a great school. There may be fights every couple of weeks or so but the teachers make it their buisness to handle it, infact most of the time the teachers deal with the problems before they result into fights. The two years I spent at drms 258 was very interesting, I had great teachers and most of the students were very friendly. The school will be shutting down in 2009 and I think something needs to be done about that because it is a great school and kids who go there get a good education. But my point is you parents and teachers who are saying the school is a bad school you are wrong. You need to give the school a chance before you go criticizing it.

The school needs smaller classes and a vast improvement in its disciplinary system. There is virtually no disciplinary system in place. What this school calls a disciplinary system is rarely used even when the teacher follows through with all the protocol that we are given. I had students throwing things across the room in this school the whole time I was there. I had to break up several fights a week. Students did very little work and it was usually difficult to do any teaching because there was always at least one student who would be creating a disturbance. I taught here for two years and while I got to know very well many of my students, the administration's way of running things often undermined my authority as a teacher and made my job almost impossible to do. I am a smart teacher with a lot to offer so I left.

Run, do not walk, your children away from this school! The teachers are dedicated and for the most part qualified, but there is absolutely no discipline. not much learning happens here.

Now you tell me why there are a stack of report cards sitting in the parent coordinators office? Not one parent comes up until June to see if their child is graduating. So, the preivious comment made about the 'spiteful' teachers are wrong. I am a parent and my daughter loves her teachers. They are all kind, and take the time out to listen to their students. But with all the nonsense times 400 children you can not hear everyone. If I was a teacher at 258 teaching all those rude and unruly children (trust me I have seen it) I would not have a job for long. I tip my hat to all those teachers at David Ruggles 258.
