I temporarily work at this school site. I have worked at many other schools in the district including the nearby Laguna Nueva and Suva. Unfortunately, this area repeatedly produces low test scores all around. The struggle with our English learners and parent participation is a constant battle. With ongoing ideas on how to improve, I commend our principal Dr. Alonzo. Her daily interactions, morning, after school and sometimes weekend phone calls, with over 100s of parents creates the willingness to get involved. Much of the staff at Cesar Chavez Elementary is dedicated to the success of every student.

I have two children that are attending this school and four that have attended. I do not blame the school entirely for their poor grades. I believe it's a number of elements that add to this dilemma. First of all, the majority of the teachers are young and inexperienced. Secondly, the parents education is very limited due to the fact that most are immigrants or children of immigrants. Third, I feel most importantly, is the fact that both parents in the household work. If you bring all these elements together it makes for a very disadvantaged child. Last year my daughter, who is now seven, did very poorly in school. This year she got a wonderful teacher, Ms. Posada, who I have to say made quite a difference. She's progressed significantly and even earned a certificate! Teachers make a difference! Granted we as parents have to do our part as well.
