McCormicks Creek Elementary School

I am a grandparent from Florida who is also a teacher with 30 years experience. My grandson is in Kindergarten at McCormick's Creek. Here it is November, and he is reading and sounding out words and sentences. The teacher explained how students needing extra help are supported in the afternoons and during the day as needed. Compare this to other schools. McCormick's Creek is wonderful. I have considered homeschooling him, but at this stage of his academic career, there is no need. I spent an entire morning in his class in order just to experience a day with him. Hats off to McCormick Creek.

My son is currently in fourth grade and has been identified as learning disabled for two years now. While the classroom teacher tries to do the best she can with all the children I have been very frustrated with the school system and thier lack of help or interest in my situation. I would not recommend this school to anyone with a child with any kind of special needs, they will not get the help they need to succeed. In my opinion if a child is receiving special help thier report card should be better than three D-'s and the rest C's. In one word I would sum up this school as pathetic.

Parental involvement is very high. My daughter has attended 3 years and has been delighted with her teachers. This is a great school for kids who need academic help. Their literacy program is outstanding. Unfortunately, the literacy program and preparation for state testing overshadow other programs. When I asked for more challenging math for my daughter, I was told to teach her at home because they have no grade 2 or 3 programs at this school for advanced students in math. Physical education meets only twice a week. Music program is strong. Very friendly teachers and staff. Most teachers come from a Christian/patriotic background, though I do see progressive teachers at the school. Overall, this is an excellent school. However, I do not recommend this school to parents of academincally advanced students.

My daughter had two great years at this school.But this last one has been awful. The teacher will not help us or keep in contact with us about what is going wrong in the class. They have not sent any progress reports home to let us know how she is doing. Just for an example, my daughter has always had an A in spelling and now she has a C and I never would have known if we hadn't sent a note requesting an update. The teatcher is very unprofessional, and can't even write a simple sentence herself that makes sense. It just seems that she is there to draw a pay check, not teach our children. It seems that a good teacher would offer solutions to problems, not be one of them.
