This is my child's 4th school in five years and I can honestly say this is by far our worst experience. There is no communication between the school and the parents. The principal has no social skills. And for all of the 'training days' that they have, I have seen little, if any, results. For the first time I can understand why people homeschool.
Holloman Intermediate School is an outstanding educational opportunity! It is by far the best elementary school in the Alamogordo Public School District. The location on Holloman AFB creates a safe environment for the kids. The teachers and staff truly care about the students' safety and education. The Principal ensures respect is given to each individual (staff and students)and educational goals are met. They have a surplus of volunteers I assume to be contributed to the military. The spouses of those enlisted spend many hours at the school volunteering their time keeping all extra curricular programs active and strong.
My daughter attended third grade at Holloman Intermediate school this year. According to the faculty, the School District has implemented many training days for the staff, which in addition to staff absences can dissolve a student/teacher relationship. This was the case with my daughter. Another thing I dislike about this school is they don't have a cafeteria, or their own playground, so they have to walk to the middle school for lunch and recess, which takes time away from their lunch/recess time. I feel that the quality of academic programs is low here, the curriculum seems to jump around and their isn't enough hands-on education with the kids, it is more homework-based. I did like that the music program here has faith-based (God) songs, and my daughter really likes music. Overall, I would not recommend this school.
I have has two children attend this school and was not impressed at all. There is a new principal this year so maybe things have changed for the better!
