I do not know why people are beating on Southlake so much. This is agreat school, great curriculum and great teachers. we have three children in the middle and lower school. They are doing great academically and socially. They christian teaching and discipline is also great. We do not deal with a lot os social issues that people have in the other private schools and public school. interestingly, alot of area schools copy their curriculum. i would recommend Southlake to anybody looking for a greay education for their kids in a loving and nurturing environment. our experience at Southlake has been good.
We have pulled our children out of Southlake Christian. Our daughter needed some additional tutoring and Southlake was not willing to accomodate us while we were working with outside help. They were very critical and because of this she was very aware of her shortcomings as a student in kindergarten. She loved her friends but hated school. We have found a wonderful place for her to grow and flourish at a different school. It was a huge dissappointment for us to remove both children from Southlake but they did not care at all we left. The administration has a 'you don't like it you can leave' attitude about them and is sadly destroying what could have been a wonderful educational institution in the Lake Norman area.
We moved to Southlake when our school closed last year. The staff has been very understanding in helping them transition. My kids are both very happy and love the school.

What I love about SouthLake is the positive environment it provides and the teaching of Christian values. You are also kept very up to date on things via the website grades and e-mail contact with teachers. What I am concerned about at SouthLake is the rigid teaching approch - teachers have little to no freedom. Rote memorization is the foundation of learning and parents are burdened with massive amounts of homework to facilitate. I would rather my children learn critical thinking skill as promised, than memorize facts they will soon forget. It is a good school, but I expected a lot more for the money. There is so much research on innovative teaching techniques and learning styles that it's a shame that SL sticks to such old fashioned methods. Works great for very task oriented, disciplined children. Not so great for more creative types.
