Im sorry you had problems with Dunedin Elementary. I have found it to be a excellent school. Reading is the main subject that everyone must know to be promoted to the next level. Math is important, but reading comes first. Did you ask that your son change teachers. Not all teachers are the same, but they do have excellent teachers at this school. If he has a learning problem, speak in English at home, so he is more familiar with it. Use flash cards with pictures on it and the word below it. I know occasinally favortism is shown at all schools. Have you sought help with the chiildren, like tuiotoring or talking them to a library to get a book they enjoy, at their level. When a child likes what he wants, its easier for them to read. Good Luck boys.

My son started this yr on pre-k and he hated it! I had to transfered him to another school, he will complain about other kids being mean to him, but the teacher never seemed to noticed. The teacher was not very opened to parents and kind of build up a wall, maybe it was just with us bec of language barriers..I don't know. I had a previous experience at this school with my oldest son who has learning disabilities and it was a terrible. I felt like I was being blamed bec my son was not able to learn as the other kids. And my son's self steem and confidence was crushed bec he felt he was not good enough. His friends kept moving on but he was retained on the same grade, bec he could not read at grade level, but he was excellent in math.

I'm very disappointed in Dunedin. There are serious behavior issues and bullying is tolerated too often by teachers who don't care. My child is going to another school next year, and I can't wait for this year to be over.

Terrific, caring administration. Great ancillary staff. Teachers are a mixed bag-- some are absolutely fabulous, a few are so burnt-out they're crispy. The students are a mixed bag as well-- a lot of them come to school carrying far more baggage than any child ever should have, and it shows in behavior. Extracurriculars are fewer than elsewhere in this part of county. The PTA does what it can, but just doesn't have the financial or parental resources of the schools in Palm Harbor or East Lake.
