Schools are about a lot more than test scores! Engaged students, like those at West View, who are becoming bilingual, biliterate, and ready to lead the world are what we need more of!

W bring our son to this school out of district. The demographics of the area present extra challenges to the school, and they do a great job meeting those challenges. The test scores represent the diveristy of the school ethnically and finacially. They do not represent what type of education our children are actually getting.

My children really like going to West View. We even apply for an out of district waiver every year so they can attend the dual language program there. In the dl program, students learn curriculum in English & Spanish. Traditionally, only private schools offered a second language to students beginning in kinder. Finally, a public school that does too. It's amazing to see my children learning to read and write (and play) in not just one, but two languages. Also, West View's staff & parents go above and beyond to try to provide outstanding educational & extracurricular opportunities. This is a super caring environment. Try not to be put off by the current test scores, the scores are improving as the dl program grows and improves too. However, parents and staff must make sure that the district stays committed to this program and to improving & updating the building/facilities.

My son has been in the DL program for 2 years and is really learning a lot. I think it is unfair to judge us on past history and continually vote down all levys for improvements . We deserve every bit of help on improvements like the rest of the schools. Keep watching the WASL and you will see who will be on top! This is the wave of the future and we will be leaving monolingual schools behind! Our kids will have the edge over entrance applications, scholarships and jobs as opposed to monolingual kids.
