We bought our house in this school district BECAUSE of this school, but my gifted son has had only one year out of 6 so far, without problems. The teachers rarely think outside the box, and if you're 'average,' you are just fine. Otherwise, it seems to take an act of congress to get anything done. My son has always been above his grade level in math and english, and in the gifted pull-out program, but it took four years of negotiations to finally get him accelerated (he skipped a grade.) His teachers had a hard time admitting he may do well with older kids, so we were put off year after year til we just about mandated the acceleration. Communication via phone and email are supposedly encouraged, but we have always had difficulty getting the teachers to keep up their end of the bargain.
