I attended Jefferson, my oldest graduates this month and I have one in Kindergarten at North. She actually has the same teacher my oldest had for first grade and she's the best thing since buttered bread! Seriously, she is an amazing and positive first influence for young ones to base their experiences on. The PE teacher at North had just started when I was in 7th grade at the Middle School and she is so wonderful with the children. My youngest always comes home with great ideas for play/exercise. Her art teacher helps her creativity and imagination. Her librarian has taught her the importance of taking care of books and how very special we are to have them. The principal is first class as she commands respect and yet is so gentle and friendly you often forget she is a principal! I am very happy with North.

So far I have been very pleased with North Elementary. The teachers my son has had have been wonderful and bring a lot of experience and professionalism to the classroom. Their curriculum is far more advanced and difficult than other elementaries in different districts (comparing North's to 2 different elementaries in Monroe Public Schools and a private catholic school as well). North received an A on Michigan's report card and Jefferson High School had a 100% graduation rate. I'm glad that I moved here for this district.

My two children attended North and had a great experience. I was sad when the district stopped transfer busses and they were switched to Hurd Rd. It was an awful experience and I ended up enrolling them in Triumph. They are doing wonderful in the charter school but, I decided to enroll my youngest child in North. My older children's favorite teacher is now a kindergarten teacher and I wanted her to love school. This is why I cannot rate the principal there the new principal came after my 2 were transferred. Right now youngest is loving the school and her teacher. Out of all the Jefferson elementary this school had the most parent participation (my oldest attended sodt when it was an elementary, hurd, and North so I can speak on that) and this makes it great for parents who want to see kids succeed. I believe in North.

This school is a prime example of the state of the entire Jefferson school district, many of us moved here for the excellent reputation the system had, now it has become a political battlefield and the students are left behind! Teachers are now politicians and are pressured to focus on MEAP scores not the kids. Discipline is inconsistent and as communication with parents. Enough, we are now looking at alternatives for our bright, bored daughters! Money is far more often the focus than the best interests of the students. Class size continues to increase, the band program is in shambles, rec center is closed, middle school extracirriclar classes are minimal what a mess. The current principal was a phenomenal kindergarten teacher but has proven a mediocre administrator. Once great teachers are'nt held accountable and have become lazy or preoccupied with budgets. This sudden fall from former glory has been difficult on our children.
