I am very happy with the experiences my children have had overall at this school. The teachers have been caring and involved. Feedback is provided via weekly newsletters, E:Mails, Testing Reports, Grades and Parent Teacher conferences. This is a school where all children are encouraged to participate. There are lots of opportunities for exploring their gifts and abilites. Sports, Chess Club, Band, Chorus, Yearbook, Field Trips, Roller Skating, Ski Club Drama, Artist in Residence program, etc. The children are also encouraged to give back to the community, through May Day baskets, food drives, a giving tree and raising money to send to students to school in third world countries to name a few. It's a great school. There is a concern for the child's developement as a whole not just academically.

I have one daughter, now in second grade. I believe that the teachers need to do a better job in communicating, providing feedback regarding student development in the lower grades. Not just at parent/teacher conferences. Students who appear to get various recognition in newsletters, and other school printouts, are the children of parents who either volunteer or sub at the school. If a parent will take the initiative to call or email the teachers, it seems that student will get attention in class not previously received. However, I have found everyone in the school to be very friendly.

Emmons Grade School is a very small K-8th school. The teachers my children had this year were very intuned to my children and really cared about their well being and education. However, I have encountered problems both in the past and with other teachers and staff members. One issue with the school being so small is that one teachers opionion of a child could get passed on quickly to the next teacher. The teachers for the extracurricular activities teach all levels K-8 and I beleive that streches them too thin and they lose focus on the age they are working with.
