Dear Parents, Please know that this week we are adding after school enrichment classes through the LEAP program. Classes are here at Calvert and are very inexpensive. We are beginning our enrichment program with Homework Club, Hola Espanol, Guitar Jam, Dance Par-tay and Elastic Steel-Core Fitness. If we can fill these classes, we will be able to add more. Please see the flyer your children brought home or come see us in the front office to get another one.

In response to the comments made by a parent (June 2006), I would encourage any parent with concerns about staff members or programs the school offers, to come to me so that they can be immediately addressed. In fact, our PTA conducted several fund raisers to provide additional instructional opportunities for our students during the 2005-2006 school year. They did not conduct any after-school 'snack' sales. We, at Calvert, pride ourselves in following the 'Pillars of Character', which includes respect and caring for others. I encourage parents and community members to visit our school, to observe the students and teachers in the classrooms, and see the students playing on our new playground equipment. I believe you will see a school that is nurturing and welcoming to our students, parents, and community members. Shirley Grodsky, Principal

I was hesitant about sending my daughter to public school with all the budget cuts but sending her to Calvert is probably the best decision I have made. The teachers are great and they strive to give the students the best education while looking for opportunities to enhance their education through off campus field trips. Their dedication to the students is great they are there way past their call of duty and are eager to set up their classrooms in the summer before school starts. My daughter is very happy there and I am glad to see that even though LAUSD is making a lot of drastic changes their spirit is in the right place - the children come first.
