We are a work in progress and I must say it is getting better and better. We have a lot of dedicated people on the staff and people that strive to make it a better school, including a fairly new administration: dean, ap, and principal. Give us time, we are getting there.

This school has it's faults but not many. My kids miss going to college park. There is so much interaction, caring and fun environment. The micro society is awesome. I think every school should have it. Two of our very favorite teachers are Mrs Betty Sheffield...she is a wonderful, loving and creative teacher and Mr Picha...which unfortunately we moved towards the beginning of the school yr, but he is very caring and sincere to your childs needs. If you have a child that will be starting here...ask specifically for one of those teachers I mentioned. You will not regret it. They are the kind of teachers that we need in every school.

This school has a cool program called MicroSociety where kids can run a made up business and earn micro money to spend in their society.
Even though College Park puts emphasis on regular attendance and discourages tardiness, I think there is a lack of communication with the parent and staff (i.e., principal, asst. principal or whoever is in charge of correcting or intervening if it appears to be a problem). If your child is tardy/absent more than the norm, the staff does not intervene to ask questions or if there is anything they can do to help solve the issue. A threatening letter will be sent to the parent and any attempt to speak with the principal about it, is unsuccessful because he will not make time to sit down with the parent to help resolve this issue. Maybe it is a minor issue that he/she may suggest to ensure the children get to school on time. I think College Park lacks some direct communication with parents from the upper staff. I also think not enough enphasis is put on FCAT preparation. Due to the extreme importance of your child's success with the FCAT, more practice and prep. is necessary. The strength of College Park is the Microsociety and student participation in the work setting. I think this program is a real success for the student's self esteem and prep. for the 'real' world. The teachers/nurse and dean are all great! Maybe the principal can take some lessons from them.
