Hillside is an excellent school with a great atmosphere. The education that the students receive is great. This is a great school because it revolves around God, and the school is like one big family. Unlike public schools, you get the feeling of a family when you attend. It focuses on education and God which is fantastic. One downside is that some students felt like the teacher was more concerned about the social lifes of the students rather than teaching. Teachers cannot control everything that goes on in a child's life, and they cannot control who the student decides to be friends with. Teachers cannot control or get rid of the normal behavior of young children, and I think that it is wrong to try to dimminish everything that a student decides just because the teacher does not agree.

Hillside is a small school that goes against the bigger is better idea and instead focuses on the basics. It is a wonderful multiethnic group of children, teachers and parents that all hold the basic belief that Jesus is God's son and all we do should glorify God and Jesus. The teaching is top notch and because of the one room setting, the children also become teachers and learn to nurture one another and how to be good citizens. My worries about my son's education have evaporated and he is happy, reading and thriving. Aside from Spanish and music, extracurricular activities are through enrollment with the public schools - an option that most of the children exercise successfully.

Academics are excellent -- and modified to meet the level of the student, whether the student is an advanced learner, or requires additional help. The aspect of the spiritual content has been very important for our family. We have two sons who have attended since Kindergarten, and they have been very blessed in this one room school model in all aspects -- academic, spiritual, social, leadership, treating others with respect, and just doing the right thing.
