Hawthorne Elementary School

Our granddaughter is now in the 3rd grade here. Towards the middle of last school year we encountered many problems with someteachers not being able to treat parents/grandparents with 'respect'! It seems it has carried over into this year. If we cannot turn to the school staff for support then who the heck can my grandchild turn too. Getting very disappointed in how things are getting handled at this school. A Very Concerned Grandparent

I, too, see an overwhelming difference in the school. As a parent that tries to be involved in my child's education, the 'new regime' is very out of touch! I feel that cooperation should be appreciated but see it as unwarranted. The principal has no business running a school any time that you inherit one that flourished and you do everything within your power to destroy a perfect situation. It makes for a hard atmosphere that only benefits salaries not children. Were my child to be subjected to this any longer than this last year, I would remove my child. She is not fit to run a school and the requirements to do so should carefully be reviewed. There are others who feel as I do so the school district should listen. This many parents can't be wrong. The enrollment is going down and down and down!

Leadership change at this school 3 years ago has left the school wanting for more change. The 'Hawthorne Way' of past years has disappeared in favor of a more authoritarian atmosphere that serves to teach to the lowest common denominator. Teachers struggle to maintain order in the classrooms, and academic standards have not improved, proving that you must teach to the whole child.
