This is my third year as Glen Oak's principal. In this time, Glen Oak has demonstrated significant improvements in student achievement. This is reflected in test scores which indicate that Glen Oak's API has increased by 26 points over the last two school years. We are constantly identifying best instructional programs and practices to improve student achievement for every student. Teachers have been involved in professional development in differentiating instruction, newly adopted core curriculum for art, music, p.e., social studies, science, and math, integrating technology into all areas of the curriculum, teaching reading comprehension and vocabulary skills, Thinking Maps, Write From the Beginning (writing program), using Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math effectively, responding to students with diverse learning styles, and implementing Character Counts. We have greatly expanded extra curricular activities to include jog-a-thon, Accelerated Reader carnival, holiday boutique, Really Radical Reader, chess master class, drawing class, drama class, Spanish class, Halloween Parade, Winter program, and a talent show. We also offer band and chorus for students in grades 4-6. Students in grade 4 go on a field trip to Sacramento every May. Students in grades 5 and 6 attend a week long outdoor science school in Arrowhead and Malibu, respectively. We use many positive student incentives including weekly Excellent Eagle raffles, monthly Character Counts recognition assemblies, and student awards assemblies at the end of each trimester. We thank all of the parents who support our school's efforts by volunteering in classrooms, attending school events and field trips, donating supplies to classrooms and assisting with special events. We encourage more parents to become actively involved in our school community as we want the school and home to be a strong partnership working toward the common goal of helping every Glen Oak student to learn and grow. Glen Oak Eagles Soar to Excellence!

CONGRATULATIONS For having a high API score, I don't have doubts in my mind in sending my granddaughter to Glen Oak school again. Continue the good work. A. Yolo

My daugter just got out of the 6th grade, and I was very happy with the teachers, most of her peers, and her education. The only thing I'd dont like about Glen Oak is it's office staff. They are very rude and pushy, they sont try there best at working at GlenOak. I will not enroll my child in kinder next year beaucse of them.

My son is ending the 1st grade at glen oak, and unfortunately we will be moving out of the area. I really love this school and will sadly miss the teachers and the staff that I always see outside guiding traffic after school. My son is sad that he has to leave this school, but is also excited to move onto another school. His teachers that he had for kindergarten and 1st grade were excellent and my son was fortunate to have them as teachers. They were very caring and always on top of issues. My son was always eager to go to school and did not want to miss any days.. Glen Oak will be missed!!
