I have 2 kids at Touchstone. The education they are getting is miles above what the LO the public school system provides. Contrary to another post, there IS a fence around the playground, which is well maintained. In recent years there was some discussion of moving the school to another location, so some maintenance had been ignored; however decision recently made to stay put has resulted in addressing some lingering issues (like playground upkeep). Blended classrooms (2 years together with a 2 year cycling curriculum in each blend) together with master themes that cut across multiple subjects make a very thought provoking environment that encourages creative thinking. Decent arts and music program for a school this size.

My son spent 1 1/2 years at the preschool and, so far, 3 years at the elementary school. We could not be more pleased and feel that the money has been very well spent. The individual attention and community feel of the school has been invaluable in helping my somewhat shy boy flourish.

The core teachers at Touchstone are terrific- they provide individualized instruction that is difficult to achieve in a public school setting because class size is so much larger. The Spanish Program, however, is sorely lacking- my child, after four years, has very little spanish comprehension. They do a lot of coloring spanish language worksheets in class. The music program is really a choir program- students don't learn to read notes (there is a little exposure to xylophones, drums, bells, recorders). Art has been fluctuating in quality, with changes in instructors. There are many public schools that offer similar programs- shop around before investing! My general experience when bringing problems to administration has been unimpressive- they have tended to stand their ground and not show much empathy. The parent-teacher organization provides the library. The School invests very little in materials and supplies, cleaning, and meal service.

With a M.Ed. I had high expectations for a school for my child. At Touchstone they focus on the learning process and, in doing so, achieve academic excellence. The students are confident and creative leaders and problem solvers.
