My son began 2yrs, 2months and is almost 4. I rate this preschool with an overall score of excellent. My son had some language and communication issues and biting problems as well (when I was pregnant). The teachers and administrators never gave up on him. All of his issues have been resolved. He's completely potty trained with Ms. Waffa's encouragement and high expecations. The curriculum is superior to other pre-schools. Directors are all LAUSD teachers, highly trained and experienced. Such a great environment for kids, we already have our baby on the wait list. Joyce's is a special environment were the staff is warm and loving towards children. I am very happy there, and so is my son.
I love this school. My son loves it too. I started him 3 half/days week at 2 1/2 and he quickly needed more time there. At almost 3 he will be there 5 full days/week next month. I was worried about nap times but he transitioned so well because he trusted the teachers to take care of him. Communication with the teachers was high for half days but now that I pick him up at the end of the day there is no one there to talk to about his progress. I am still rating this school a 5 because my son and I are so comfortable there and everyone is so loving and caring. I never feel that my son will be in poor hands and feel confident that he is in exactly the right place for him.
I am so happy and relieved to have found Joyce's. My 2 year-old son started last month and it's been a big transition for him. The staff has been very patient and encouraging offering feedback and suggestions. I started him only once a week and I then realized maybe he needed to go at least twice a week to acclimate better. He still cries when he has to go to school, but it's encouraging that he does run to his teacher when he sees her in the morning. It's nice to see a school where the entire staff helps to make my child feel secure during this transition. I visited over 10 schools in the area and this one just felt right. All the teachers are happy. It's important to me to have my son around happy, positive people. The school has a great feeling of community.
I LOVE this school! After a year at another preschool my son started developing behavioral problems and these went away as soon as we switched to Joyce's. They have great young teachers, home cooked meals, time outs, open spaces, they focus on each child so that the kids learn at their own pace and faster. When I got pregnant with my 2nd son my 1st started acting up again and the director told us they were prepared to deal with the situation with unconditional love and undivided attention. The problem went away after a few weeks. I can't say enough about this school and highly recommend it.
