Hey if your on here make sure you look at our test score ratings. For a school with such an emphasis on sports we have really good test scores. That's because we have the best teachers in the world. They really care about their students and will do whatever they can to help them. They are constantly adopting new programs to further expand their students opportunities. Yes, there is an emphasis on sports. Every year some of our students get recruited with full scholarships to college so I don't see that as a bad thing. The groups that have to raise their own money do amazingly well because the parents work with the school to get it raised. I graduated from their with honors and as a member of the National honors society. They offered my many opportunities to gain experience for my future career. You can do a lot there.

I am a former graduate of UCHS, so I feel that I can give an opinion from the student's perspective. The sports program is over-emphasized and over-inflated. There are some intelligent, caring teachers. However, the academics are lacking for higher educational preparation. When I was a student, there was no budget for the band program, with the students having to raise money for their uniforms, band trips, instruments, etc., as the school would not provide the necessary funds. There was preferential treatment for the athletes, but almost no support for anyone with other educational or artistic inclinations. If as a parent, you care more about your child's athletic success, then UCHS is the school for your child. Although, if you are more interested in academics, then finding another school might be a better choice.

I agree, with Heidi. Unicoi Schools may not have alot of money, but they try their hardest to get kids through school. I enjoyed school while I was there in UCHS. Whether anyone else seems ot aknowledge that or not, I don't care. I loved the German Class with Frau Guinn. All my classes were fun and I had a great time.

I believe that Unicoi County Schools do the best they can. The teachers in the area are the most caring and do try very hard to inspire their students. These schools offer programs for students that can't be found anywhere else. They have one of the best bands in the state and these schools have recieved numerous awards for what they contribute to their community. Very often they recieve exchange students. These exchange students have often said that unicoi county has the nicest people they had ever met. The system may not have much money but it has other things that matter more.
