Nelsen Middle School

While some of th programs are great, such as the music program, other programs such as math, and the discovery classes, lack greatly. In the math program they have a tendency to push you on to the next class, Even if your not ready for it, which is what got my sister into huge trouble. As far as the discovery program goes, which is suppposedly for 'advanced' students, we are often doing the same things as the other classes. Sure, our music and sports activitys aren't bad (our track team almost went to state last year), What about actual academics?

The first day of school was NOT a positive experience. The School was VERY dirty and the orientation included a 15 minute discussion on gang violence, fighting, gang colors, crime on the school grounds and .................I was speechless. Im re-locating my daughter to a better school.

Nelsen is truly a great school. I am very involved in the music program, which is one of the best in the state. They have great teachers who really care about their students. The only thing I don't like about Nelsen are the large class sizes- the average size of my classes this year was 33 students, which made it hard to learn. Other than that, Nelsen was fantastic!

I have to say that I have mixed feeling about the school. Not so much because of the staff, but because of the many unrully and rude students. Nelson Middle school seems incapable of dealing with them. The vice pricipal, Dr. Love, and many other staff members have been supportive, but by the time they become involved the damage is already done.
