Claywell Elementary School

My 6 year old is in 1st grade and my 4 year old is an EELP student (special needs). My oldests kindergarten experience wasn't one of pleasure, his teacher was easily burnt out with him (he has ADHD). But this year, his experience is phenomanal! His teacher is loving, caring and really wants him to do well. So far his school year is going great! He's had great days, I'm really proud of his success and the teachers help! My 4 yr old, just started, but he seems to enjoy class very much! He's excited to go to school. My only issue is the administrative group. They seem like they care, but don't seem answer my questions, or get me certain results. But the teachers my children have this year, seem to be very concerned. I can only advocate to much, to have that extra help from the teachers is awesome!

My daughter is currently in 2nd grade and we have had a wonderful experience. Communication with administraators and teachers is open and welcomed. I feel we have a voice and have many opportunities to volunteer in the school to make it even better. I have had the pleasure of working closely with various staff members, who are always looking for ways to make the school better and offer our students new programs for academic and social development. The school is filled with neighborhood families with a great sense of community.

This school is just average. How it has an A rating is beyond me. I can only guess it's because all the teachers do it teach to the FCAT. There are very few extra things like PE, computer, or music. Teachers also seem to be burnt out and apathetic to parental concerns. This definitely is not a warm, caring and challenging environment for children. Grades may be good but everything else is lacking.

I attended this school in 1985 when I first moved to Florida, and I am thrilled that my daughter is now attending. She is a third grade student and has attended since 1st grade and I have been happy with all of her teachers thus far. They have challenged my daughter and since attending Claywell shows such pride in her work. Her current teacher is wonderful and even has a special lunch bunch lit group that meets once a week for those that are excelling in their reading. All of her teachers have been innovative and seem very invested in the success of their students.
