I think the overall school is great learning environment. I don't agree with the parent's view regarding diversity. I am unsure if the school has dealt with really serious issues regarding having other ethnicity at the school. I would encourage anyone other than non-white to look at other more diverse schools. I do think the school attracts parents who have the concept of the 1950's and teach this to theor children. Even though my child enjoys the school, we are seriously thinking about removing her to a better diverse school that undersatnds and appreciate that everyone should be loved and respected regardless of what the person looks like on the outside.
We have two children in this school and have been attending for 4 years now. We can say this school offers a solid education as it's students consistently demonstrate significantly higher test scores over it's public rivals. We also like the christian foundational beliefs that are taught there. The Pros: faith based teaching. Discipline. Many (not all) compassionate teachers on staff. Good before/aftercare program. Affordable. Results oriented cirriculum. Online assistance for lessons. Cons: if your child has special needs, this probably isnt the school for you. Also, if you happen to get one of the few teachers that aren't their best, you will have a long year.
Diversity is not a strong suit for Slade. Many of the teachers and parents that you are encouraged to work closely with have views dating back to the 1950's and some teach there children those negative views, towards fellow students and (good) teachers. If your child is not a friend of the students who's parents teach there , don't expect to get the nice service hours, (you will clean). And forget participating in many of the activities that mean so much to children who have yet to understand the poltics of it all. But not all is lost, if your child is gifted enough to make it into Mrs. Chao's class she is the school's shinning star!! and deserves her weight in gold. Hats off to you!!!
I can't say enough great things to show the appreciation I have for a school who is like one big happy family. The education is great. There are multiple activities (sports, band etc...) for the kids that are all quality. Most of all, it is required to all parents are involved! A recipe for success!
