Martin Luther King Jr Elementary School

Martin Luther King Jr. is on the right track! As a parent and teacher I thought carefully about what high school program would offer college prepartory classes, small teacher to student ratios, and the attention my daughter deserves. I am very happy with her experience thus far, she has visited three colleges already and she even enrolled herself into a scholarship information service! She is excited about her assignments and her vision of college is becoming clearer everyday. The CSAP scores from the freshman class were fourth for district ranking them above East High and just below Denver Science and Technology and School of the Arts. I am proud of this community school in the great neighborhood of Green Valley.

King has many great qualities and the teachers are outstanding. My child attends King and the teachers pointed out right away that she was very advanced for her age and started working with her to keep her challenged. I really enjoy all the teachers, counselors, and administrative personnel, not only do they know you by face and will speak they also know your child, and that makes for a warm and friendly environment. Keep it up!!

While I believe King has many great qualities, to include some outstanding teachers and some really great folks in the special ed and related areas-I also feel that the school lacks some continuity in the leadership area. Our principal of 2 years was previously a counselor at King and seemed to do a great job. However after her transition into principal there have been some uphill battles which some have been over come and some have not. I am sure in time she will 'fit into' principal much better, but in the mean time I feel it has been unfair at times her handling of certain situations that could have been avoided and/or handled differently. At times it feels that there is no monitoring at the principal level be the administration.

They have a New Computer lab. Choir, Band/Strings. Dare Program and many others. As far as the special eduacation dept. The teachers are outstanding! They are understanding, very patience. The rest of the staff is knowledgeable, caring and loving. They know how to get to the root of issues and work through them and make children excel! The PTO is one good place to start. Parents can volenteer in the classroom, outside the classroom. Its a great place to be. Staff members will put you to work. You can even eat lunch with your child(s). Throughout the year, they have fund raisers, Reading programs and much more.
