The staff is kind, caring and loves the kids like a school should. They are always on top of a students progress. If a child is in need of extra help they put forth all the effort possible to get that extra help. The special needs department is great with all the handicapped children there. I love Helena!

We recently relocated from Pelham to get our son into Helena schools and have been 100% satisfied with our decision. He has shown tremendous improvement at this school, his teachers have been very knoweldgeable and experienced, which says a lot in our children's education. We are extremely happy with Ms. Cooper, the principal, who seems to go the extra mile with our children's best interest, rather than another agenda. The city is really growing, and our recommendations from fellow Heleneans to relocate here was perfect and we're very glad we made the change.

We moved to Alabama from another state. The reputation of Helena is why we came to this town! The county was rated high as were the schools! I heard all great things from the school and read some nice reviews. Nothing is the same! I had very high expectations for this school and staff to meet, and unfortunately they have failed miserablely! Even the people in the community surprised me at the parent night, cheering when the principal anounced NO spelling tests! What kind of school system does not encourage that? My child is very discouraged about school because many policies are much different than what he is used to. He has begged me to let him stay home because of teachers attitude towards 'punishment'. I am very unhappy with the decision I made and the situation that I have placed my child in.
After having 2 children attending HES at the same time (they are 2 years apart), I feel somewhat qualified to offer my opinion of the school/teachers. I must say, when we first moved to Helena I was a bit apprehensive about the quality of education my children might receive (we moved from Homewood). I am happy to say now that both of my kids have moved on from HES to HIS, and I have NO complaints! The teachers my kids had at HES were wonderful, caring, and professional. One of my children has some learning disabilities, and the teachers were WONDERFUL at helping her succeed! I feel that there is no other school that could have done any better than HES to prepare my children academically and socially. I must admit, I am a little sad that my youngest has 'graduated' to HIS as I will miss all the HES folks!
