my daughter just loves b.h.s. the teachers are outstanding they are really willing to work with the students and I could be happier with this school

This is a wonderful school and the last without regulations and chain link fences. It gives the students more opportunity to get to be there, instead of having to be there.

As a former student, because one cannot be a former Driller, I graduated from Bakersfield high School in the top 100 of my class. I know a bit about the school. I was on the debate team, in the AFROTC, and took AP/Honors classes. I also took some CP classes during my tenure there and I came across a conclusion about many students: they are too lazy and unmotivated enough to do their homework OR show the teacher respect. So when that particular student was being punished by the teacher-the rest of us were punished as well, by being denied knowledge. This does not only happen at BHS but at other schools as well. BHS is a wonderful campus, with great teachers, that are dedicated to teaching their students. Every1 has at least 1 teacher they couldn't learn from-this doesn't mean that they were bad teachers. The band and orchestra program has been struggling for years- great opportunities but no administrative support other than lip service. Sports reign and academics are given enough due to look good on paper. The real needs of the students are overlooked in a pursuit of the Driller Tradition. They want a band- at football games. The orchestra looks good on paper- 0 period against Caml tests and Bench Mark tests dries up participation and attendance. And don't even get me started about the principal...
