Oakhurst Elementary School

Oakhurst is an excellent school. Weekly seminars are a great approach to develop critical thinking in children, who are encouraged to bring their own unique approach to the discussion in a very nurturing and respectful environment. Teachers are incredible and very open to listen and talk to parents. We love Ms. Ward. My child is in kindergarden and his natural learning curiosity is costantly tailored to his abilities and stimulated. We love the diversity in this school: many different cultures and backgrounds are welcomed here. The principal is great and always with an open door. We are sorry that she will move to another school next year. The Paideia approach to encourage learning as a life experience and not merely geared to test scores is exactly what we wanted for our child.

Oakhurst has been a wonderful school for both of my children. Paideia is such a wonderful approach to teaching. Seminars (which makes this school stand out from the rest) has the students sit together discussing a topic in detail. The paideia approach assists the students to think before they speak. It encourages listening and a discussion style atmosphere. You would be amazed at the responses the students make during seminar time. The teachers are wonderful and the support staff is amazing, esp the gym teacher and the school psychologist.

My daughter is leaving and moving on to middle school next year, but I have to say that the time that she spent at Oakhurst was truly enriching for us both. The principal is amazing, and seems to genuinely care about the students. Academics are stressed, as well as extra curricular activities, creating a well rounded environment. My daughter has blossomed into a confident thinker thanks to Paideia seminars, and the diversity is top notch. Thank you for being a wonderul school Oakhurst, we'll miss you.

absolutely wonderful school in central charlotte! we have the best teachers and principal and staff. everyone is top notch and cares about each child. we are a paideia academy which teaches us to be active lifelong learners. we have a remodeled facility and we're accomplishing the addition of an outdoor learning classroom. extracurricular activities include, odyssey of the mind, science and art club, chess club, math olympiad, and safety patrol. our students have art and music and a formal pe class along with media and computer lab once per week, in dedicated classrooms. our school is top notch but I always like to leave room for improvement which is primarily focused on our lame politics which takes a no backbone approach to discipline. any problems are quickly acknowledged and dealt with by our staff. I am a pta board member as well so I spend a lot of time at the school.
