BHS is a fine school. BHS is not 100% about academic excellence and 'accelerated learning' but as the parent of a profoundly gifted student, I appreciate the school's approach to nurturing the whole student, not just the test scores.
Bayfield High has a rigorous curriculum and compassionate teachers. Students consistently score in the top percentiles on national tests.
Bayfield HS is a terrible school environment. You will receive no education whatsoever because every class is taught at an elementary level. Advanced courses are not available until the junior year and even then they are no more of a challenge than the standard courses. If your child is college bound I would recommend taking them to a private school in Durango.
I believe this school was perfect for our daughter, she had great friends, teachers, and role models. Bayfield is small, but the school is district is amazing, can't find school systems like this very often!
