its a great small school where in this day and age the teachers know all the students in the school. Thats a good feeling.

Mildred Dean is the 'jewel' of the Newport Independent School district. Recently, the school scored in the top 6% of elementary schools on the state CATS assessment test. Despite it's urban location, the school more resembles a small surburban school from the 60's. The school is small (less than 250 students) and the staff is dedicated, caring and completely committed to their students. I have two children currently enrolled and they are thriving. One point of pride is this school has effectively closed the 'achievement gap' - their at-risk students score comparably (and is some cases higher) on the state assessment relative to the students not catagorized as 'at-risk' Bravo! Any parent that registers their child at this school can rest assured that their child will be attending one of the best schools in the Commonwealth.
