My son attended the school for 6 years and was asked to leave because the teacher couldn't handle a few of the children. My son is very sad and transitioning from a small school where he was with the same children for 6-years was difficult. I'm now dealing with self esteem issues after having him in public school for only three months. I'm still looking for a place for my 7th grader.

My son has been attending Journey for nearly two months and in that time, I have heard him say that he loves school almost daily. Why? I believe the approach to learning and instruction is so powerful because it's geared toward teaching children-and, not focused on primarily the standardized testing. Thus, I can see a 'seven' being given by Greatschools. However, if Greatschools rated curriculum, master teaching, community involvement, and overall child development, Journey would score a perfect 10. It's that good. Moreover, traditional schools are working with such a minimal budget and are so heavily focused on testing (in part because they earn money from them) that the curriculum is being pushed aside for test prep. That's not what I want for my children. I've taught for seven years in several states and have a deep understanding of education. And, that's why I choose Journey.

Journey is first public alternative in Orange County and offers children an arts-based, whole-child educational philosophy.

It is a blessing to have a charter school in Aliso Viejo, however this particular charter school is certainly not for everyone. Yes, there is a lot of confusion in the administration, events get cancelled and the parents get notified at the last minute. But the reason why I am taking my child out is due to the lack of mental stimulation. I did not fully understand what the Waldorf system entails. And it does teach children the basics of reading and writing about 1 or 2 years later than a public school. I still believe it is a great school for kids that just would not fit into the public school system. And the public schools are certainly not inviting, so it's a shame that the only charter school we have is so extreme. I am still looking and hoping for a middle ground
