This is an awesome school to be at. it ranked #37 in the nation! that is so cool! their sports program is awesome and the teachers are fun and engage their students. The clubs after school are all good as well. And the new building is looking great. The classrooms and cafeteria and the gym are all looking awesome. The new school is going to be absolutely beautiful!I am involved with the volleyball sports program and it is awesome as well. I also encourage all the incoming freshmen to take AVId [advancement via student determination]. It is a program that teaches you the tips to succeed in high school and college. They teach organiational habits, note-taking, lectures... overall, it prepares you for AP classes in high school and for college [and 80% of students who take AVID in the 4 yrs of highschool attend the college of their choice]. Newport= awesome!

Newport is a small town, so it is easy for partents to stay involved in their childrens education. The school does not focus on arts or music, but instead puts most of its extra curricular money into sports. I think that the academics are behind most of the state, but the average income in the county is $22k, so I think that contributes.

It was overall a great school. When I moved there I noticed that there weren't (at least in my class) any 'clicks'. I really liked that and felt very welcome. However... It wasn't the greatest education. Let's just say there are some teachers that need to retire.

I have had 4 children go through the Newport school system. Of the 4 only 1 has had a positive experience. The WASL scores should speak for themselves. While this is a rural district and that in itself adds unique problems, the administration seems to be ignoring the results of the WASL test scores and what that says about specific departments, especially at the high school level. The small school spirit can be a blessing or a curse depending on which group you are part of.
