I am amazed by many of the comments posted here. How can a school be rated by the attitude of the students toward learning? Yes, this school is large, therefore a degree of alienation will be felt by students who don't join student organizations and activities. The same could be said of any large suburban high school. I also don't see the racial polarization as someone suggested. I think the criteria that matters most should be whether the staff is caring, competent, and professional. This is my first year at AHS, but my tenth year of teaching, so, with some degree of comparison, I can honestly say we do well under that criteria. Our administration is responsive to problems and actively seeks to improve. We have challenging course offerings and many great student resources. We have top rate sports teams and a good facility. What more could one want?

i think the school should ease up on some of the rules. like the id's. i understand we have to wear them. to get into school. but if were not leaving it i think it would be ok if we took them off

This school is just too large. It is difficult for students to get to know each other. Good course offerings but that is about it. Also racially polarized. Not all that it is cracked up to be.

AHS is an amazing school. the information about crime rates is entirely false! According to crime rates statistics our areas crime rates have decreased, and home sales have increased because homes are being repossesed in Walden. Our teachers are amazing, and always there to help. If a student doesnt understand the material they are asked, and in some cases pleaded to come into tutoring. There is always a teacher in every subject ready to help in the mornings and after school. Some teachers are even available for tutoring 3 hours after school has ended. If a student does not comprehend the material it was their fault. Dr. Kohn was an amazing principal. His ideas elevated the campus, but were brought down by our current principal. AHS is an amazing campus and the reason there aren't more positve postings is because the good parents are serving in the PTSA. AHS is amazing.
