Helman is more than a school, it is a community. The teachers are examplory, the principal is a dynamic leader with great integrity. The whole school builds strong relationships with parents to create the best possible environment for the children.
Are you looking for a warm, welcoming, inclusive school for your child? Helman Elementary School is a jewel of a neighborhood school tucked away in a quiet area of Ashland, Oregon. Most children who attend this school have gone all the way through their elementary years here, but when new children come, they are accepted with open arms and hearts. As the reading specialist for the past six years and a teacher at Helman for the past 20, I can attest to the fact that our curriculum is child centered but academically challenging. We catch children early if they start struggling academically or socially and give them the support they need to succeed. My son is a 2nd grader here and we both love it. The teachers are fantastic. They care about not only that he is reading, but that he is playing well with his friends too. They go on plenty of field trips to really include fun while learning. Parent involvement is greatly encouraged.
When it's a snow day and my children are actually disappointed to be missing school, it's a good sign that Helman deserves 5 stars.
