I have taught at San Pasqual Valley Elementary for nearly sixteen years. During that time, we have had so many different administrators that there has been little consistency in the leadership. Our teachers, in general, really care about the children and work very hard to educate them to the best of their abilities. I know most of the children love school and love learning. That is the most exciting thing to see everyday. I do wish that there were more parents willing to work as a 'room mother' or 'room father'. Just that little touch impresses children very much. While I do not like our school being compared to others, because it is rather unique, that element is missing in comparison to my other experiences in schools in San Diego and Yuma. Keep an eye out for opportunities to help a class. -Mrs. Kircher, First Grade :-)

Great improvements are being made via NCLB, setting standards that all must follow. Student lifestyles will also affect how that student performs in school, and how that child and parent accept responsibility. Perhaps with California's billions $ shortfall, more stakeholders will realize they must accept responsibility.

School is what you make of it! I read the other ratings and the stereotypical jargon was alarming. I am a native parent (also graduate of SP)of a very bright native student and we dedicate a lot of our family resources to school programs and class rooms. I paid over 40,000 in taxes last year and reside in the Community of Winterhaven-reservation, additionally we volunteer our family finances to offer incentives to ALL of the students by way of donations, volunteer work, or gifts. This school could flourish if administration, school board, and teachers focused more on the students needs. I'm sticking around to try to help make this school become what I know it can! Also, the Quechan Tribe donates tons of money to the school-it's sports teams, extra curricular activities (THE ARTS), and individual students-including non-Indians! They put their money where their mouth is!

I would say that the administration needs to support the Teachers more. Not just throw government programs onto them. Many times the Principals don't believe what is really going on in the classroom playing the blame game instead of helping as a team. This puts kid's at risk. The staff is dedicated and works hard. There are some divisions and favoritism played by the administration. Sometimes not all teachers are kind and sincere toward each other, preffering to not mingle with other teachers, or actually wanting to find out how they are doing.
