This was a 'forced' placement for my child under AB 3632 from The Department of Education in California. Although it was presented to be the only treatment center appropriate for my son, and it was to adhere to his I.E.P. written and signed in line with Federal and State law, it does not (after 9 months of residential treatment) seem to be giving him everything they advertise to offer. It is a facility structured and modeled after a punitive modality. It says it is based on behavior modification, but I found that to be in the favor of Copper Hills' convenience and the behaviors that are rewarded have to 'fit' into Copper Hill's schedule and or staff's ability. It is not individualized treatment. They offer no music, no team sports, no outlets for these children socially. They are told, 'don't get comfortable here.'
