My child attends Garfield Elementary. In comparison to a previous school my child attended, I find this school to be chaotic and disorganized. Communications between administration/teachers and myself are less than desirable. The physical environment is not acceptable- the building is old and requires rennovations. On his first day of school my child excitedly compared the playground area as 'a prison yard' with asphalt, little grass and metal fencing with barbed wire on top. I am however, happy with his teacher and believe she is wonderful. The 'gifted'program offers substantially less services and is not as challenging as my son's previous school. I would like to see attention paid to building rennovations, addressing the overcrowding, and providing a more rigorous gifted program.

We have been a part of the Garfield school community for three years and I wouldn't send my two children anywhere else. My children think nothing of a diverse classroom. The teachers really care about their students and it shows. The academic programs are run well. Parental involvement is appreciated, and is therefore very high. Every year my children receive the teacher that best fits their personality. My children are becoming well rounded individuals because of the experiences(art, music, gym, game nights, etc.) they have had at Garfield.
