Gatewood Elementary School

We have had children at Gatewood for 7 years, and have overall had a very positive experience. Our children vary widely from being solid average students to needing accelerated options. They have different interests, from math and science to the arts. Gatewood has been able to meet their needs while providing a diverse environment where character and respect are emphasized.

We had a so-so experience with Gatewood. There seems to be a lot of children who like to make trouble in this school. Kids get tossed from class to class because the teachers can't control them. Lots of inappropriate behavior that I didn't like my child to witness. As for teachers, we had some good ones but one horrible teacher. We have since moved and put our son in a better school. He is so much happier at the new school. He also seems to be doing even better academically because of less distractions in the class room.

My children are having another wonderful year at Gatewood. This school is a wonderful sample of life with plenty of diversity, programs for all children and a superior teaching staff. A few parents have left recently due to white flight in order to isolate their children from such a diverse population. However, most parents welcome a school like Gatewood and enjoy the exposure to children from all over the world. Each of my four children attended Gatewood and have had a superior academic experience.

We had an all around bad experience at this school. The teachers did not pay attention to the children leaving school in the afternoons. My son also had lots of problems with bullies and we eventually had to remove him from this school (per his physician's suggestion). We found a much better elementary school in Eden Prairie
