GHES has the BEST secretary bookkeeper in the world. She pretty much runs the school, all the kids love her, the principal calls her on her house phone for mentoring, as do others from the office, and she is so sweet.
As a student who was in the Fort Mill School system since kindergarten and now a teacher myself, there is no other place I would recommend to send your children to in SC than Gold hill Elementary. The teachers, administrators, and staff are welcoming not only to new students, but parents and visitors around the clock. Other schools around the state are always stressing the importance of standards (so much that it interferes with students' true learning and students simply know they are there to meet standards, not really learn); GHES is the exact opposite. Real, meaningful learning takes place in this school. I highly, highly recommend all parents/guardians to send their students to GHES!
I wrote a review on September 1, and our experience is still outstanding. The parental involvement here is very strong, with a variety of volunteer opportunities. There were hundreds of parents at the 1st PTA meeting, at which they christened a new running track (with fitness stations) that was built using money raised through grants and donations. Now one of the gym teachers is 'jogging across America' and charting mileage toward that goal on a map of the country. And the jogging club lets kids log their own miles on the track one morning a week (one morning for each grade). They are constantly raising the bar on academics and offering kids the chance to stretch themselves such as through Math Superstars, which lets kids attempt weekly math worksheets that are one grade level ahead. This is a great environment!
