Groton is a great rural school with an excellent Ithaca and Cortland influence. Most schools our size have nowhere near as many extracurricular opportunities as we do because the staff is very involved in the students' lives. The middle school places great emphasis on character education and every teacher has something unique to offer the students. We also have an excellent guidance counselor, which is often an overlooked asset. Groton has always had a solid art and music program and Cornell's influence has certainly strengthened the sciences.

I find the academic program at the middle school to be good. Both my kids have been involved in advanced classes in English and Math and I feel they were sufficiently challenged. The music program from elementary school up through high school is outstanding. The instructors of both vocal and instrumental music are very enthusiastic and run a great program. There are also a good number of quality sports and club programs. My kids often have trouble finding time to do all the activities they'd like to sign up for. But they enjoy playing basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and cheerleading. Football and track are also offered, but our kids don't participate in those. Overall, I think Groton is a good school which isn't so large that the students get lost in the shuffle.
