Great teachers, bad administration! The teachers try hard but Bates has gone far downhill over the past two years. My daughter was an 8th grader this past year and I was very disappointed at the direction the school is taking. Dr. Lancaster, the principal, is not involved in the school like the previous one was. My daughter says she never speaks to students and never comes in classrooms to see what is going on. Some kids don't even know who she is. The students say she acts like she is better than everyone else there and talks down to people. The teachers tell the classes that money is short and so they can't make copies of worksheets and the like but the office areas have new furniture and carpets. Something is wrong there and I am glad that my daughter is going to the high school next year.
This is my 3rd year at Bates and i absoultey love it. theres always someone who you can get along with no mater what. and the teachers are absoultey awesome. we also have a IB program. meaning some kids take spanish! im happy to say that last year the class i had was the first one at Bates. i love this school

I'm a former student of Bates Middle School. I graduated last year thanks to the help and attention I received from the faculty and staff. If it weren't for them, I might not have graduated. The principal, Mr. Graham, was always there to help me when I needed it. He kept me out of trouble, he allowed me to stay after school when needed, and best of all, he treated me as a friend. If your looking to have fun and learn at the same time, you should probably try Bates. I highly recommend it.
