I have a 7th grader who currently attends KIS. He does well in school and has several friends however he is ready to move on as am I. I feel the level of work is low in the school and the level of expectations is also low. I think alot of the issues is because of the lack of funding for most Hawaii DOE schools and that leads to the teachers having less to teach with which shouldn't be the case. My son reports fights on a weekly basis. I also remember being told about mandatory study halls if your grade dropped to a certain mark and that isn't always the case..... There are some great teachers who push the kids to achieve and for that I appreciate them, but get tired of hearing that these kids take up an entire hour acting out.

I attend Kailua Intermedaite School, and I am in the GT program that is held at this school. I believe this school is okay, but it could improve in what teachers they have at this school. In some of my classes, one of my teachers are biased in his teachings, which is not good in teaching students. While the principle tries to avoid some situations that are going on in the school. Other than that, the fights that occur in this school is very minimal, and it's reputation from the last few years has faded also. Overall, i think this school is an average school.

My daughter is a 7th grader at Kailua. I also had some reservations about her going here, but my choices were slim. I think the new principle has turned the place around. The reputation it had is old news. Kailua Intermediate is a wonderful place to send your kids. The teachers care, they give appropriate homework. They have been in communications with me from the start. You have to want to continue to be a part of your children's lives and help them along with the teachers. They are your responsibility, not the teachers. My daughter is very happy here and has made some nice friends.

I have a 7th grader there now and 9th grader that was there for 7th and 8th grade. The principal doesn't put up with nonsense and there is a sense of calm in the school. Most, if not all of the teachers care about their students and want them to do well. I would say that from a student's point of view the amount of homework was just right, but as a parent, I would have liked to see a little more, in the form of book reports or projects. This school rates at the top for me and my family.
