I have diligently kept my children in the West Corridor og HISD because of the superior performance of all the schools on this end of the HISD school zone. Westside was a welcome addition to this side of our school zone.
My biracial dyslexic son and I love Westside. He gets all the special attention he needs. The school is a poster child of diversity -- 30% white, black, brown and 10% Asian. We come from a private school background and Westside compares very favorably. The teachers are accessible. Emails are answered quickly. Tutoring is available. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive. The school looks great. New and clean. Drive by and see knots of students from diverse cultures mingling together. If you are thinking of spending money for private school, there is really no need to.

My son has had a great experience under the tutelage of administration and the teachers. I thought that he would have a hard time making the transition as a new student from out of town but he assimilated quite well. I think that there should be more communication between teachers and parents so that parents have full comprehension of their child s progress. The bulk of the information I receive about school events and important announcements are gotten from their website or through an automated phone message. I had debated on whether or not I would allow my son to return to Westside for his senior year however, after completing a wealth of research on Westside I found that they have numerous curriculums available to enrich the learning experience of their students. I am confident that my son will have what he needs to make a successful conversion into college life.
I attended the open house session last week - I have a senior - I must say that this was my first real view of the school's capability, strategy and actions. Whereas I went with some initial trepidation on the quality, I must say that I was impressed with the heart of the teachers I heard from, the discipline of the students I encountered, and the sense that WHS is very well managed with a stron view of the future. So my rating would be 4 out of 5 stars.
