Re comment 2/28/09, your stating about treated differently & your child if you complain seems to be widely practiced in the Douglas County School System. My daughter is at Eastside & same thing, principal is horrible, bad attitude, supports teachers & dismisses parents, school board refuses to address issues, school overcrowded. One parent said get involved don't sulk & complain on a post, this is the purpose of this site, to inform other parents of actual experiences. These are children & parents aren't always there to protect them, our tax dollars pay for this and kids are affected often negatively. Parents don't have a voice because school board supports the schools, not the parents. I'm looking for an alternative to move my child, but I'm disheartened about what I've seen & dont' think the public school system is going to work at all yet they will keep my tax dollars

Our daughter is now in her second year at ASES. We were hesitant to try public schools but have been very pleased with this school and its administration. It's very well organized, the administration and staff are very professional/approachable and the parents are involved and friendly. My daughter's current teacher is outstanding. I can't imagine finding another teacher we would be more pleased with!

I am involved in the PTSO, so am up at the school frequently. I am very happy with the staff at the school. My children excel and are both in the gifted program without any prompting from me. My children are happy and are doing well, which is an indicator of who good the school does. Most of our parents are involved and help out. The best way to improve schools are to be involved, not complain on a website and sulk!

After 5 years as an ASES parent, I can tell you that all of the teachers are highly qualified and most of them are putting in countless hours to do the best that they can for our children each day. The administrators do an amazing job and are very approachable! I am up at the school often and have never noticed any signs of favoritism. The administration, teachers, staff, and PTSO give ample opportunities for parents to have a voice. However, having a voice doesn't always mean that you get your way (Example: Presidential Elections). There are various fundraisers throughout the year, but you can pick and choose what you want to participate in (or not participate at all). There are many things that the county/state does not pay for. The money that is raised goes directly to paying for supplies, activities, and events for the students/teachers.
