Currently a sophomore & I really like it at Balboa. We're about to choose pathways today. I'm not excited. Smaller learning communities would be great because the classes are big (which is surprisingly not a drawback), but it seems like a downer having classes mostly with people in your pathway. I said I liked math and a student told me to check out another pathway other than Law, as if I couldn't learn to love English, or I didn't already love social science. Pathways seem too narrowed down. But the teachers are good if not great, regardless what pathway a student is in, and if a student isn't in a pathway yet (like me). I really love the community we have, the way the teachers can have fun with the students and get subjects done as well. Extracurricular activities are great at Balboa also. Parent participation and fund raising is sad though.

I am an alumni student who is of class 06' I attend UC Davis, which was my choice over many UC's such as Berkeley.. I was a student through the transitioning years, going from a school that wasn't desired to one in which parents are wanting their kids to attend. We now have career pathways, i was a student of Law academy, I had wonderful teachers! and the feeling of being there is kind of like a family bond. I plan o become an English lit teacher with inspiration from Mr.Wilcox, join a program like, or if not- teach for American and hopefully teach as an English teacher along side Mr.Wilcox! =D

This school has shown dramatic improvement for the last few years. There are many aspect that I like about Balboa. 1. the pathways, it allows the students to choose something that they enjoy. 2. the teachers, they are passionate and are willing to help their students with any problems. 3. the programs such as the clinic, school to college, etc.
