This school has the hardest working teachers of any I've seen. My children's Pre-K teachers were beyond awesome. Unfortunately, beyond second grade or so, the kids are drilled endlessly for the standardized test. All morning doing reading drills and all afternoon doing math. My kids are too bright to need that. They seem to have to teach to the middle kids - spec ed kids get the bare minimum help and GT kids don't get any support. As I said, every teacher I met seems to put in 100%. The PTA seemed to have great parent involvement. I don't know what the problem is.

Allan offers a variety of extracurricular activities like the Paws after-school has karate, 4-H club, sewing, action threater club, and homework help. There is the Longhorn Neighborhood Club, Longhorn Buddy mentor program, PTA, and volunteer is always available even on weekends for the Allan Garage Sale, Fall and Spring Carnival.

I would like to say that my personal experience at Allan has been a pleasant one. My son is now going to the 3rd grade and we have had no problems with our teachers. Our teachers have been caring and most importantly efficient. we have been fortunate enough to have been in the company of individuals who sincerely care to educate children. If you are new to Austin and aren't sure whether you are comfortable with this school, rest assured that the teachers at Allan Elementary are a good team. These are teachers that have pulled together in adverse and positive situations and have helped children achieve a higher educational status in East Austin. Way to go Allan teachers!
