My daughter is a third generation student at St. Nicholas. My husband and I have made many sacrifies to stay in the neighborhood so that our children could attend this school. The teachers are a mix of new teachers with fresh ideas, along with veterans that taugh me when I was a student there and taugh me lessons that I still remember twenty years later. I feel that much has changed for the better since I attended, and there is a great effort on the part of the parents, teachers and School Board to provide more opportunities for our children to excel in this competitive society. Because enrollment is very small there is a chance for students to get individual attention from the teachers. They learn discipline and respect and show it with good sportsmanship at volleyball tournaments. Compared to other catholic elementary schools, St. Nicholas is very reasonable.

My sister attended St. Nicholas and she and 6 of her classmates just graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep. Now my daughter is in Pre-K at St. Nicholas, she has Aproxia, a learning disability. Within one year, she has shown great progress due to the excellent teaching and the one on one attention that she received from her teachers . I am very confident that my child will 'catch up' much faster than we expected because of the dedication and wonderful care that St. Nicholas teachers provide.

I agree they do ONLY take care of the Ukrainain students if you don't speak the language your child will be treated differently.

I attended St. Nicholas for one year and it was one of the worst educational years of my academic career. The school seemed respectable from a brief visit however attending the school was a different matter. The teachers ranged from unqualified to uninterested. After attending the school I felt completley unprepared for high school and fell behind my freshman year because of the lack of teaching at the school. The ammount of homework was ridiculous. There was a strong emphasis on being Ukrainain and students who did not speak the language were treated at a poorer standard. The religious studies program seemed unethical at times because of the unopeness to other beliefs and discrimination to other cultures and religions. In addition the school was uncomfortable during the winter months so students were forced to wear coats and gloves in the classroom because the rooms were not properly heated. Do not send your child here.
