AMS is socio-econimcally diverse--so the values on education from the parents is varied. It's hard to teach kids who come in with more emotional baggage than any adult should have, and to motivate them to succeed. My daughter is in top classes--so her teachers don't have to spend their time putting out fires--they actually get to teach--but, like any other 21st century school--it's tough for teachers to teach when kids don't care and don't try.
Arbutus Middle School is horrible for 6th graders just starting out. The 6th grade team (most of them - not all) Mr. Montgomery is excellent but most of the othe teachers are young and arrogant. The have know concern or care for these 11/12 year olds and no patience with the at all. My child has not learned much this year because the teachers are more concerned about silly issues than teaching and trying to mold the 6th graders into their new enviroment of middle school. The Vice Principal is horrible. Not understanding on bit, not easy to talk to and also very arrogant. The guidance department is awesome and if it was not for them I would not have made it through this year with my child in this terrible teaching enviroment.

I am beyond dissatisfied with Arbutus Middle. The educational value of the children is placed very low. The teachers coming in are all so young that the students don't take them seriously. The teacher interaction with the parents is horrid. To get the teachers to give positive feedback is something close a miracle.
